Reconnex Announces 100th E-Risk Assessment Deployment

Reconnex's iGuard Monitors and Analyzes All Network Communications for the Most Complete Mitigation of Risk in Fortune 1000 Companies and Government Organizations

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., November 8, 2005—Reconnex, the expert in enterprise risk discovery and management systems, today announced that its iGuard information security appliances and e-Risk Module (ERM) policy engines and reporting templates have been deployed in 100 e-Risk Rapid Assessments within Fortune 1000 companies and government networks since it began shipping in February 2005.  Reconnex’s e-Risk Rapid Assessment, a unique service that reveals all electronic risk on a company’s network, was deployed at Norcal Waste Systems, Inc., the pioneer of recycling services in California. Norcal Waste subsequently chose to deploy Reconnex iGuard appliances to monitor its network communications and provide full event correlation capabilities for the discovery and mitigation of risks.

“The fact that we have reached this milestone of 100 deployments within just nine months of shipping product shows that corporations are getting serious about proactively curbing the insider threat before their company is the next to make headlines for losing confidential information,” said Kevin Cheek, vice president of marketing at Reconnex. “By deploying Reconnex’s iGuard Platform, corporations are making a commitment to the protection of their intellectual property, to the security of their customers’ confidential data, and to developing due process for compliance issues.”

Complete Risk Discovery with Reconnex’s 48-Hour e-Risk Rapid Assessment Service

Reconnex’s 48-Hour e-Risk Rapid Assessments monitor all traffic flowing over a corporate network, regardless of file type, communication channel, or port, to provide a complete and actionable view of enterprise risk.  Unlike software-based solutions, Reconnex’s unique appliance-based approach to risk discovery and management makes it possible to deploy the product in a company’s data center, enables the appropriate e-Risk Modules to tailor security policies for each specific organization, monitors all communications on the network, and provides a complete analysis of the data and an executive-level risk assessment report within just 48 hours.

“We decided to engage in a Reconnex 48-Hour e-Risk Rapid Assessment because it offered the highest level of visibility into how our data was being used and where it was going, regardless of the communication channels being used,” said Jeff Karafa, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Community Bank in Dearborn, Michigan.  “I was completely shocked by what I learned. In just two days Reconnex showed me that confidential information was leaving through holes that we thought had been blocked, so we deployed the Reconnex iGuard appliance immediately to continuously monitor all of our network communications.”

It’s Not Just Your Email That’s Leaking

Reconnex has found leaks of confidential data in 100 percent of its e-Risk Rapid Assessment deployments, across all industries tested. Despite the widespread use of email monitoring solutions, Reconnex’s solution has found that in most cases, employees have found work-arounds that enable them to bypass these security measures. And while companies often focus on securing SMTP-based corporate email, Reconnex has found that corporate email accounts for only 13 percent of network traffic, with Web-based communications being used for over 80 percent of network communications.  In light of this data, corporations are becoming increasingly aware that an SMTP-based email blocking solution is not enough to prevent confidential data from leaving the network.

Real-Time Monitoring Plus Event Correlation Capabilities Ensure Immediate and Future Visibility

Reconnex’s iGuard appliance is the first risk-discovery and management solution providing meaningful, actionable context for enterprise risk.  Reconnex’s appliance-based system is the only platform available that not only monitors and analyzes all inbound and outbound network content in real time for enterprise risk, but also allows users to search data that did not trigger real-time risk policies.  A configurable data retention window, which may be either capacity or time based, allows users to access actionable data that provides unprecedented context to past incidents on their networks.  This data can also help users tune policy moving forward.
This configurable retention window provides complete flexibility to meet the needs of any network environment.  Reconnex is the only content monitoring vendor that allows business and technical stakeholders to analyze all of this stored information through both a quick search interface for basic searches as well as an advanced search interface for more complex queries.  Other vendors are limited to only providing one-time incident occurrences that match their pre-defined filters and cannot support event correlation queries.
