Reconnex And Tenable Network Security Partner To Improve Enterprises’ Ability To Find And Remediate Risk

Combination of Reconnex iGuard and Tenable Security Center Increases Effectiveness and Value of Security Management Deployments

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 24, 2006 - Reconnex, the expert in electronic risk protection, today announced that it has entered into a partnership with Tenable Network Security, Inc., a leading developer of security management solutions and creator of the popular, award-winning Nessus vulnerability scanner. The solutions of the two companies are complementary and will allow enterprises and government agencies to create additional context for security teams, enabling them to identify and remediate security issues when they occur.

Reconnex’s iGuard content monitoring appliances, deployed at network ingress/egress points, perform real-time content analysis at network speeds, regardless of protocol, file type, or communication channel.  The iGuard is the only content monitoring appliance that captures and stores all content traversing the network for later risk discovery, event correlation, and analysis, resolving confidentiality breaches associated with electronic risk policies and sensitive or confidential content in real time.  Tenable’s security management solutions perform vulnerability scanning, passive network monitoring, log analysis, security event management, and remediation workflow.  The Tenable Security Center manages asset vulnerability levels, configurations, logs, system discovery, system intrusions, and deviations from typical system behavior.  When an incident occurs, data from the Reconnex and Tenable solutions produces a comprehensive audit trail of what occurred and can minimize incident response times to security breaches.

"Using the Reconnex iGuard in combination with the Tenable suite of security solutions provides The George Washington University with a centralized way to consolidate and manage real-time security," said Amy Hennings, assistant director, information security, at The George Washington University.  "The Reconnex/Tenable partnership gives us the additional context and intelligence we need to increase the effectiveness and value of our security management deployments."

Combined Solution Improves Effectiveness of Security

By providing content-based context to network events, the iGuard makes the Tenable solution more effective in positively identifying real threats to data leakage and eliminating false positives.  Enterprises can use the combined solution to audit the effectiveness of their existing security architecture and policies and build a picture of broader trends surrounding security incidents.  The combined solution provides several advantages.

  • Event normalization. Tenable’s Log Correlation Engine normalizes iGuard event logs and analyzes them alongside firewall, intrusion detection system (IDS), netflow, vulnerability, enterprise asset, and other sorts of data.
  • Event correlation. Security personnel can search for compromised servers that are transferring sensitive data and can watch for long-term activity such as the downloading inappropriate content for longer than an hour. In addition, the enterprise can elevate iGuard events based on time of day such as alerting for after-hours events.
  • Asset correlation. When the iGuard generates alerts, Tenable’s Security Center will know what system triggered the alert, who owns the system, and what applications it runs.

“Managing and reducing enterprise risk is crucial to our customers,” said Ron Gula, CEO of Tenable.  “By partnering with Reconnex we’re able to give customers a broad-based approach to real-time risk discovery, correlation, and protection that improves their overall network security posture and gives them far greater insight into the security issues they face
