Reconnex Wins "Excellent" Rating in InfoWorld Product Review

InfoWorld Review Calls Reconnex’s iGuard 3300 a Top Choice for Detection and Remediation of the Insider Threat

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 21, 2005— Reconnex, the expert in enterprise risk management systems, today announced that its Reconnex iGuard 3300 was given an "Excellent" rating in InfoWorld’s review of content-monitoring products, which appeared in InfoWorld’s June 20 issue. InfoWorld recognized Reconnex’s iGuard 3300 as the only product that can detect and write all data communications at gigabit line speed, providing significant performance increases over the competition.

"[Reconnex’s] solution does one better than the competition in an important way: iGuard’s customer file system writes all communications data at gigabit line speed," said Mike Heck, contributing editor for InfoWorld Test Center, in his review. "In addition to banishing network lag, this feature captures unknown attachments, allowing examiners to do a complete forensic analysis. There wasn’t a business circumstance I couldn’t accommodate."

Unlike the software-based products tested in this comprehensive review, Reconnex’s hardware-based architecture is the only passive product that enables detection at gigabit line speeds while ensuring that it will not take a corporation’s network down. Other software-based solutions run on an often insecure Windows platform and require patch management, while Reconnex’s purpose-built hardware ensures security and will not interrupt network performance.

Also highlighted in the review is Reconnex’s superior storage capabilities (up to 1.5TB) and unprecedented ability to provide advanced forensics capabilities. Reconnex has analyzed gigabytes of live data at its Fortune 1000 customers and government agencies and found that – contrary to popular opinion – corporate e-mail is not the number one channel for leaking confidential data. Approximately ninety percent of all network traffic monitored was Web-based traffic, including Instant Messaging, Webmail, and other Web applications. That is why the iGuard 3300 enables users to search all past violations based not only on sender, recipient, or IP address (like competing products), but also for all objects of similar classification, regardless of their association with past violations, for the first time providing a unified view of all activities occurring on the network.

"We’ve learned in over 80 Reconnex e-Risk Rapid Assessments™ performed to date, simply blocking email would not have been enough to prevent identity-theft," said Donald J. Massaro, CEO of Reconnex. "Surprisingly, only one percent of the total traffic leaving the average company is email, the rest is web-based content like Hotmail or HTTP posts to bulletin boards. Therefore, no company can prevent identity-theft with an email blocking strategy. That is why Reconnex focused on the accurate detection and forensic capabilities in the iGuard 3300. We are pleased the Reconnex solution received an "excellent" rating for its superior performance and forensic capabilities to provide organizations the most complete solution for the detection and remediation of the insider threat."
