Advantial Federal Credit Union Purchases Reconnex DLP Solution to Secure Customer Information
Reconnex’s Data Loss Prevention Solution Enables Credit Union to Comply with Industry Regulations
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 31, 2008 — Reconnex, the leader in information monitoring and protection appliances, today announced that the Advancial Federal Credit Union has purchased the Reconnex iGuard Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solution to prevent customer data from leaving its network. The Reconnex solution enables Advancial to improve its technology and data management practices and to comply with industry regulations and requirements such as the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), the Sarbannes-Oxley Act (SOX), and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA).
Data security is especially important to Advancial because it serves 48,000 members across the U.S. “When you provide transactions and information over the internet, you must be able to identify who you are working with and how you are working with them,” said Larry Burwell, the CIO of Advancial. “We continually search for ways to better protect our members’ information, and we’re always looking for cutting-edge technologies like the Reconnex iGuard.”
After learning about the DLP solution, Advancial asked Reconnex to perform a 48-hour e-Risk Rapid Assessment™, which discovers if private and proprietary information is at risk and if employees are using the network inappropriately. Advancial was impressed with the results and wanted to purchase the solution. However, because the e-Risk Assessment was performed shortly before a regular audit, the company wanted the auditor’s opinion of Reconnex’s findings before making its final decision.
“The auditors told us this technology puts us at the forefront of information system leaders,” said Burwell. “They had never seen the level of protection and behavior modeling that the Reconnex DLP solution provided. The Advancial board of directors approved the purchase of the Reconnex iGuard because it saw the value in protecting information about members as well as in protecting our own assets. We can now identify and deal with both valid and invalid traffic, and thus ensure high levels of service and security.”
Reconnex iGuard Provides Many Benefits
Advancial currently employs the Reconnex iGuard to prevent private and sensitive data from leaving its network as well as to monitor and tune its network infrastructure. The DLP solution enabled the credit union to identify previously unknown ‘get arounds’ to chat-based communications and block users from sending data over non-approved channels. The Reconnex iGuard also enables Advancial to make sure no inappropriate content is going through its email system.
All traffic from branch offices is routed through the network in Advancial’s Dallas headquarters, which is secured by firewall and filtering systems. The Reconnex iGuard has enabled the company to evaluate its current infrastructure, and as a result the credit union plans to interface the Reconnex iGuard with an upgraded external-facing email firewall. This change will enable Advancial to encrypt emails containing information that is allowed to leave the network and also to block emails if necessary. Later this year, Advancial plans to deploy the Reconnex data-in-use agent on laptops and workstations to provide information protection even when users are off the network.
